Death of Bin Laden

We really do try to keep things humorous and light, but the news of the past two weeks has been pretty serious and bears mentioning. Last week we felt it necessary to comment on the devastation from the southern storms, and as we were preparing a light-hearted look at our modern culture for this week, word of Bin Laden’s death came in.

This is a momentous event and one that will most definitely make the history books. After ten long, gruelling years one of the most sinister villains of all time was finally captured and put to rest. That should go a long way toward showing that America will never give up pursuing an enemy, no matter how long or how much effort it takes.

Congratulations and a hearty thanks, once again, to our brave military forces involved in this operation. As details emerge it sounds like it was an action sequence right out of a movie, and we are very thankful none of our people were injured or killed. And thanks also to the countless people behind the scenes who worked relentlessly for nearly ten years to compile the information needed to carry out this operation.

Not to put a downer on all this, but a word of caution is in order. The war on terrorism is not over. There will be new criminals to take Bin Laden’s place and more crackpots may try to cause us harm, so let’s be careful out there.
